Christmas Town Has Arrived: The Nightmare Before Christmas Pop-Up Bar in Salt Lake City

Sooner or later, someone in Halloween Town gets restless. This year it happened in our basement.

All fall, The Rabbit Hole beneath Lake Effect in downtown Salt Lake City has been Halloween Town: a 21+, ticketed, 90-minute cocktail and dining experience inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas. Nearly every night has sold out. One remains. And as of today, the second act is open for booking. Christmas Town runs November 12 through December 14, and tickets are live now.

What is the Nightmare Before Christmas pop-up bar?

It is an immersive themed bar, not a stage show. The townspeople spent weeks below street level hand-throwing drinkware you will not find anywhere else, illustrating a menu by hand with a local artist, and building a cocktail list around the film's characters and motifs. That list stays sealed until you are seated. We are not being coy. We are being consistent with the source material.

Your $25 ticket holds your seat for 90 minutes. Food and drinks are ordered once you are in and paid for separately, and the food menu can be previewed on our website before you book.

Last call for Halloween Town: Monday, November 2

Every other Halloween Town date is sold out. The final night is Monday, November 2, with only a couple of reservation times left. Yes, that is two days after Halloween. Its residents have never been especially good at letting a holiday end on schedule, and we see no reason to start correcting them now.

Christmas Town tickets are now available

In November the room is stripped to the studs and rebuilt. The cobwebs come down. Something brighter goes up: a little baffling, a little too cheerful, the way Christmas looks to a skeleton studying it with a chemistry set. New decor, new cocktails, new food. Same 90 minutes, same peculiar company.

Christmas Town dates:

  • Thursday, November 12 (opening night)
  • Monday, November 16
  • Monday, November 23
  • Monday, November 30
  • Monday, December 7
  • Monday, December 14 (final night)

Halloween Town and Christmas Town are two separate experiences, and each needs its own ticket. If you were lucky enough to see the first, this is the rest of the story. If you missed it, this is where most of the city will be starting anyway.

Is it 21+?

Yes. The pop-up runs inside Lake Effect, so our standard 21+ entry rules apply to every guest, every night, with valid ID. No minors, no exceptions, no matter how convincing the costume.

Not drinking? You are still invited. The menu includes a couple of non-alcoholic drinks, so the designated driver, the sober-curious, and the friend already committed to a dry December all have something worth holding.

A holiday plan for Salt Lake City that isn't another light display

The usual list of holiday things to do in Utah is lovely and very well attended. This is something else: a themed holiday bar with a cocktail program built from scratch, in a room that exists for five weeks and then does not. It works as a December date night in Salt Lake City, a small holiday party for up to eight, or a reason to drive down from Park City, Ogden, or Utah County on a Monday. Mondays need all the help they can get.
